What the 2025 Act changed, then the state overlay
Online real-money cricket betting is prohibited in Assam under the federal Act in force from 1 May 2026. The older state picture: The Assam Game and Betting Act, 1970 prohibits betting and gambling in the state. That offline statute still matters for in-person play. Online cricket betting is separately prohibited nationwide from 1 May 2026.
What this means for you
Assam already prohibited betting offline. The 2025 Act adds a nationwide ban on offering, advertising and paying for online money games, including cricket betting for a stake. The 1970 Act does not reopen online staking.
